West Kenya Education Empowerment Initiative

Education is not free in Kenya.

There are millions of children in Kenya who aren’t in school or are kicked out regularly because their families can’t pay the basic fees (which can be anywhere from $100 to $1000 a year). These children live in fear of being called from class and sent home.

Several of our players missed months, even years, of school because they couldn’t pay the school fees. If it wasn’t for Kenya Lacrosse, many of them wouldn’t have been in school or have graduated.

The producers of ‘Sleeping Warrior’ want to help as many kids as possible get a basic education. We are putting profits from ‘Sleeping Warrior’ towards kids education in Kenya.

At the moment, because of COVID, school in Kenya is cancelled, so we have sent 4 teachers into an orphanage in West Kenya and also have created a makeshift school at Eagle’s Point camp. Through this, 80 kids are being educated (and given at least one meal and one snack a day) until Christmas 2020.

We haven’t yet applied to be an official charity, but we have been raising money and letting our donors know what’s happening with the money.

If you would like to donate, please go to our gofundme page and donate. If you would like to find out more, please contact Janet at janet@quarryislandfilms.com or Nina at nina.ruiz@icloud.com and we can tell you more.
